Story Clip: Detention Part II

Ok Beth, no need to gauge my eyes out with an orange marker. Gotta go to Chem but here you go! Glad you like it!

Izzy laughed shortly to herself and smiled. James was nice and funny and flirty, on top of good looking. But he didn’t appear to be the type she would date, based on what he’d said and what she’d heard around school.
“Something about American history that’s amusing to you?” Mr. Rotari asked as he reentered the room. Izzy jumped and quickly minimized her chat screen.
“No, sir. I’m just remembering a joke someone said today,” she made up. He looked at her suspiciously.
“Well, then you won’t mind much if I take a look at what you have thus far,” he said striding towards her. Izzy signed out of instant messenger as fast as she could, mentally shooting herself in the foot for not keeping quiet or telling James she had to go. Mr. Rotari looked over her shoulder just as she got rid of all traces of being on instant messenger and started typing her second page of her report.
“Pick up the pace,” he grumbled, after glancing over her writing. He went back up to his desk and Izzy quickly signed back on to IM. She clicked on James’ name and typed an apology lightening speed.

izzybabe14: so sorry. almost got caught by Rotari
USCfootball12: Rotari?
izzybabe14: i’m in detention writing a 6 page essay for him. its murder
USCfootball12: thats cruel. what did u do?
izzybabe14: voiced my opinion in class. didnt realize that was illegal in america
USCfootball12: its not. just in Rotaris domain
izzybabe14: not helping
USCfootball12: wasnt trying to
izzybabe14: thnx 4 ur support
USCfootball12: ok i will help if u want me to but i g2g first
izzybabe14: as long as u dont abandon me in my time of despair
USCfootball12: dont worry

James signed offline and for some reason Izzy’s heart skipped in sadness when he did. She went back to her report managing to type another full page before the door to the classroom swung open. She didn’t bother looking up, thinking it was just another teacher, until she heard the deep voice.
“Hey, Mr. Rotari. How’s it going?”
Izzy snapped her head up to the front of the room where James Cambridge was talking to Mr. Rotari. The teacher looked up from the tests he was grading, startled.
“Oh, hello, Mr. Cambridge. What can I do for you?” He asked. Izzy’s jaw threatened to drop. He was nice to James but cruel to her. Life was unfair. She realized her face was prominently indignant when James’ lips twitched into an amused smile and she tried to smooth out her features.
“Ok, the thing is, I have a report due for CIA History tomorrow and Miss Leighton will be mad if I don’t get it done,” he began.
“What’s the problem, then?” Mr. Rotari questioned with a smile. Yes, you can drop dead now. Keith Rotari smiled.
“Well, it’s a partners report. Isabella and I have to work on it together,” James explained nodding towards Izzy. The two guys looked at her as she pretended to write some more of her report.
“So you want me to let Miss Morrigan out of detention to finish a homework assignment with you?” The teacher clarified.
“Yeah. Pretty much. I mean, it’s for Miss Leighton. It’s quite important, Mr. Rotari,” James hedged.
“Oh, alright. Miss Isabella?” He finally gave in, calling out to Izzy, his voice turning from kind to sour in the two seconds it took him to say her name.
“Yes?” She asked innocently.
“You may forget about the essay for me and finish your report with Mr. Cambridge. Feel lucky; this is the first, last, and only time it will ever happen,” Mr. Rotari said warningly.
“Ok,” Izzy said excitedly, gathering up her books and shoving them and her laptop into her Prada messenger pack. James winked at her as she walked past him to the door and he followed her out, closing the door securely behind him.
“Thank you, thank you, and thank you!” Izzy said to James as they walked through the hallway. He laughed.
“No problem. That time was easy.”
“Oh, so you regularly get girls out of detention?” She asked teasingly.
“It was my specialty back in California,” James shrugged. “Well, I told Mr. Rotari we had to work on a report together so it looks like we have to hang out for the next few hours.”
Izzy smiled. “I’m not complaining.”
